The Business and Community Services (BCS) Building marks the beginning of UNI's new public campus, which is designed to provide an interactive environment for public/private partnerships. Initial areas of emphasis will be economic development assistance and technology transfer to assume a more active role and spur greater regional development. Funded by appropriations from the U.S. Department of Energy and Small Business Administration and the Grow Iowa Values Fund, the Business and Community Services building will house:

  • an Innovation Accelerator
  • UNI's economic development and technology transfer programs
  • Conference and Event Services
  • Iowa State Extension




The new BCS building and related programming will provide:

  • Enhanced technology transfer and economic development assistance through Business and Community Services programs
  • As intellectual property office and grant coordination and application assistance
  • 10-12 technology-based and office-furnished student business incubator suites with a full educational program for student entrepreneurs
  • Opportunities for special events, workshops, and other opportunities focused in the economic development needs of Iowa
  • Technology transfer and private sector space in the Innovation Accelerator including:


    • office suites
    • built-to-suit space
    • angel and venture funding
    • management training
    • broadband technology
    • support staff
    • market research
    • conference/training space for up to 50
    • convenient parking
