Program Orientation and Moving From Manager-Thinking to Leader-Thinking
Facilitated by: Vickie Robinson , Ed.D.
There's difference in the way a manager thinks and approaches an issue, and how a leader thinks and responds to a situation. This session will explore those differences and set the stage for the rest of the certificate program.

Visioning and Influencing - The Job for the Leader
Facilitated by Vickie Robinson , Ed.D.
Leadership involves influence and vision: envisioning needed changes and influencing the behavior of others so existing resources can be harnessed to implement these changes. This session focuses on leadership theory and styles as well as a leader's involvement in the community. Pressures involved with moving from peer to boss will also be discussed.

February 3, 2010, 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m
Communicating and Influencing from the Leader's Vision
Facilitated by Tom Hall, Ph.D
Learn how to move from management to leadership by using communication practices that define and nurture a different kind of organizational culture. The focus is on persuading and influencing as well as negotiating. Guidelines and tips for communicating to the media, customers, and shareholders will be shared.

Visioning and Strategic Thinking for Leaders - The Strategic Plan
Facilitated by Patrick Langan, Ph.D.
Participants will learn the three basic components of strategic planning: identifying the goals of the organization, analyzing the competition, and accurately analyzing the organization's own strengths and weaknesses.

Leading with Values: The Ethical Battles Leaders Face and How to Win Them
Facilitated by Donna Wood, Ph.D.
The elements of ethical leadership will be explored tying business ethics to a company's bottom line. Practice using the language and tools of ethical analysis, and gain skills to develop and manage an organizational ethics program.

March 17, 2010, 9:00 a.m.- noon
On-Site Session with a Local Business Leader
This session provides a unique opportunity to learn from a successful business leader - their organization's vision and their strategy to be a leader in their field. Participants are charged with involving the leader in a discussion of the major principles they have learned from previous sessions.
1:00 – 4:00 pm
Personal Career Coaching
Facilitated by Ronelle Langley, Ph.D.
Participants will identify their personal strengths and formulate a career development plan which will maximize their strengths and contributions to their career. Participants will be offered the opportunity for a personal career consultation session with professional executive coach, Ronelle Langley, Ph.D., the afternoon of May 12th.

Big Picture Decision Making - Thinking Ahead
Facilitated by Victoria Robinson, Ed.D
Participants will learn how to develop and apply a multi-step decision-making process, which includes ensuring the problem has been defined appropriately, setting goals and objectives, identifying and evaluating alternatives, making choices, implementing the decision and measuring results.

Finance for Leaders
Facilitated by David Deeds, C.P.A., C.M.A., M.B.A.
Participants will be exposed to a variety of basic financial analytical tools and techniques to better understand environmental trends, assess corporate performance, understand and calculate value, facilitate budgeting and support other types of management decisions.

Threats or Opportunities? The Global Impact on Business
Facilitated by Chris Schrage, M.B.A., CGBP
Your newest competitors aren't around the corner, they're around the world. This session will address how and why this situation is at hand, how certain companies and industries have successfully dealt with global competition and how others have not. Global issues related to the growing impact upon both small and large companies will be discussed.

On-Site Session with a Local Business Leader
This session provides a unique opportunity to learn from a successful business leader - their organization's vision and their strategy to be a leader in their field. Participants are charged with involving the leader in a discussion of the major principles they have learned in previous sessions.

Personal Career Consultation
Facilitated by Ronelle Langley, Ph.D.
As a follow up to March 17th session, participants who are interested, are given the opportunity for a 30 minute personal career consultation session with professional executive coach, Ronelle Langley, Ph.D., the afternoon of May 12th.

May 19, 2010, 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Leading Through Changing Times
Facilitated by Ronelle Langley, Ph.D.
Participants will learn how to develop an understanding of the nature of change and why some welcome it easily and others resist it fervently. They will learn to create a positive culture for change through proactive planning and realistically assess their organization's readiness for change. By embracing change as a natural process, and create an environment that welcomes creativity and experimentation.
Program Graduation follows from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
