First-Time Supervisor Survival Skills

The transition to becoming a manager or team leader is often a stressful experience.  Yesterday you were one of the gang.  Today you are "the boss."  What do you do next?  In the first weeks and months of managing others, effective leaders need to focus on building skills in those areas which will help them survive this difficult transition.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

• Understand why and how to build new relationships with former peers.

• Define their natural leadership style.

• Gain key supervisor communication skills - the difference between managing people and managing work.

• Learn to manage time more effectively.

• Gain strategies for managing conflict.

• Create a plan for rewarding and disciplining appropriately.
