Business and Community Services Bldg., Suite 128 Creating a Culture for Entrepreneurship at UNI!
In 1996, John Pappajohn, president of Equity Dynamics, Inc., established five entrepreneurial centers throughout Iowa. Although each center defines its own mission and serves the state in a manner consistent with its particular strengths, each center has the same ultimate purpose: to enhance the effectiveness of Iowa's entrepreneurs.
The primary mission of the UNI JPEC is to foster the development of entrepreneurship throughout Iowa by providing or facilitating support for a variety of direct educational, consultative, and other services. The UNI JPEC focuses on three primary areas of entrepreneurship: (1) capital programs, (2) student/faculty/staff entrepreneurship, and (3) technology transfer. JPEC capital programs are open to all qualifying businesses and individuals. They are not reserved solely for students, faculty, and staff. See the specific program guidelines for details.
The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center offers more than a dozen educational programs. Many of these are listed to the left. Additionally, JPEC staff make numerous public appearances annually. These include speaking engagements on entrepreneurship, the programs of the Center, and specialized workshops/classes. If you are interested in having a JPEC staff member speak to your class or group, please contact us at 319-273-JPEC (5732). The JPEC is a division of UNI's Business and Community Services (BCS).
For those not affiliated with the University of Northern Iowa (not a student, faculty, or staff member) and needing entrepreneurial assistance to start your small business, you may avail yourself of the services of the UNI Regional Business Center at 212 E. Fourth Street in Waterloo, 319-236-8123, or http://www.unirbc.org. The Regional Business Center can assist those seeking to start a small business, as well as existing businesses. Further, the UNI RBC can assist economic developers and other technical service providers. Entrepreneurs and service providers may find the UNI RBC's MyEntre.net to be of assistance.
